What You Need to Know About Starting and Finishing a Garment

This 2-part class will address the things you need to consider before beginning a garment and once completed, the appropriate methods to finish a garment for professional-looking results. There will be some homework (knitted swatches) to be completed prior to the second class. Class is predominantly lecture-style with some hands-on demo.

In the first class you will learn about choosing a pattern and fiber, swatching, gauge, tools, sizing, and construction.

In the second class you will learn about blocking, bind-off techniques, weaving in ends, and seaming. Homework: Knit 4 swatches (8” x 8”) in worsted weight yarn-2 in garter stitch and 2 in stockinette stitch. Do not bind off, or cut yarn, but leave on needles, waste yarn, or a stitch holder.
