Knitting, Crocheting, Weaving, & Spinning Classes for All Skill Levels

Black Sheep is proud to offer a variety of classes in knitting, crocheting, spinning, and weaving from experts. It's a great way to learn something new or expand your skills. We offer classes that cater to fiber artists of all skill levels, so bring your friends and make it an exciting event.
When viewing our classes listings, please make note of the descriptions below regarding skill levels. We want to offer you the best possible l
earning experience based on your particular skill level.

Beginner – You are looking to learn basic skills through a private or introductory class. You can call us at 410-628-9276 to schedule beginning knitting, crocheting, weaving or spinning classes.
Advanced Beginner - You have already taken a private or introductory class or have basic skills, such as knowing how to knit and purl (for knitting classes) or chain and single crochet (for crochet classes).
Intermediate – You have the basic skills listed above and are familiar with increasing/decreasing and working in the round.
Advanced – These classes feature advanced techniques for students who have already completed several projects.

Black Sheep Class Policy

All classes (with the exception of private lessons) will have a minimum enrollment requirement of 3 students unless approved by the
individual instructor.

Cancellation and Refunds:

We understand that there may be instances where you might have to withdraw from a class. If we are notified of your cancellation 1 week or more prior to class you can receive a full refund. If we are notified 2-6 days prior you will receive a 50% refund of your class fees.

Because a good deal of preparation goes into these classes we unfortunately cannot accommodate last-minute cancellations.

If we are notified 24 hours or less prior to class there will be no refund issued.

Butterfly Stitch Dishcloth (Beginner)

Learn this easy Butterfly Stitch while knitting this cute little dishcloth. This is a wonderful vacation project...easy to take with you on the plane, train or beach. Makes a great gift as well!

Back by popular demand! Improve your knitting skills one square at a time. This class will help you navigate through major knitting skills and techniques one at a time, each skill building upon the other. Advance registration is required. 3 students minimum

Learning how to spin is learning the process of drawing out fibers and adding twist until you've created a continuous thread of stable yarn. Starting out on a hand spindle is a great introduction to the world of spinning yarn. Our guest instructor, Heather Kennedy will guide you through this fun technique. Fiber and drop spindle are included in the class.

Next Step Brioche (Intermediate)

After you have mastered basic brioche, take the next step and learn basic increases and decreases, using the Ravelry pattern, Your First Two Color Brioche by Chiaki Hayaski. Class attendees should have previously taken the Beginning Brioche class, or have some experience knitting brioche.

Tentacula Hat (Intermediate)

This intermediate level pattern features a fun and unique stitch technique, that will keep you on your toes but then when it clicks, it’s simply fun and amazing. Pattern contains instructions for multiple weights of yarns, but we will be using worsted weight yarn for class. Malabrigo Rios tonal or mildly variegated is an great choice for this hat, but any worsted weight can be used. Tentacula Hat pattern by Jenny Noto can be purchased on Ravelry prior to class.

Tunisian Crochet (Advanced Beginner)

Intro to Rigid Heddle

This 2-part class will teach you the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom. This loom is a very basic, lightweight portable loom. Cost of the class includes use of the loom for the week.

No purling required! Learn to make this one-piece, round dishcloth, hot pad, or facecloth which features a decorative lace feature around the edge. You'll be doing easy garter stitch short rows.and basic lace as you work the segments that create the circle, which is joined together when completed. Great paired with a beautiful handmade soap as a special gift.

Beginning Brioche (Intermediate)

Learn the latest trending technique: brioche! In this class, you will learn how to knit two-color brioche in the round to make a cowl. You will learn the basic brioche stitches and some brioche abbreviations, too. Join us for this fun course with color and texture!

Learn the technique of making a sock from the toe-up using the magic loop method (no double-pointed needles). In this 3-part class, we will be learning Judy's Magic Cast On for a seamless toe, an easy heel with no short rows or picked up stitches, and a stretchy bind off. We will be using a worsted weight wool to make the project go faster and to easily learn new techniques. You will be knitting a thicker sock that would be great to wear around the house or in boots. You will be able to take the techniques you learn to knit other socks out of more traditional sock-weight yarns.
